John (Jack) L. Eells
Executive Vice President & Chief Exploration Officer
John (Jack) L. Eells joined Mission Resources Corporation in late 2002 and served as Senior Vice President of Exploration and Geoscience until the company was sold in July 2005. While at Mission, Mr. Eells was responsible for prospect generation in the onshore areas of gulf coast Texas, Louisiana and in the offshore Gulf of Mexico. During the two and one-half years at Mission, Mr. Eells supervised generation of over 50 new prospects and 40 development locations, of which 47 were drilled with an average initial production rate of 5.0 MMcfe/d, and an overall success rate of 83%. Prior to Mission, Mr. Eells was Vice President of Domestic Onshore Exploration for El Paso, where he managed a budget of $120 million and oversaw significant new field discoveries in Texas and Louisiana, which resulted in reserve adds in excess of 300 BCF. In 1994 Mr. Eells joined Coastal Oil and Gas Corporation prior to its merger with El Paso where he held various positions including exploration geologist, team leader, Director and Exploration Manager of Canada. As the Director of Canadian operations Mr. Eells was responsible for a $100 CDN million budget, and during the 3 years in this capacity oversaw several large exploration plays in British Columbia and Alberta where successful drilling proved over 200 BCF of reserves by year-end 2000. Prior to Coastal, Mr. Eells had an extensive background in the oil and gas industry, including co-founding two private oil and gas companies, High Plains Exploration and Lariat Exploration, as well as holding various positions with Houston Oil and Diamond Shamrock and Mobil Oil Corporation.
Mr. Eells graduated from San Diego State University in 1972 with a Master of Science degree in Geology and graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree in geology from San Diego State College. Mr. Eells is a licensed geologist in the state of Texas, is a member of the American Association of Geologists, the Houston Geological Society and the Canadian Geophysical Society.
